Welcome to May Board of Communication
4th June 2018
During the month we had invited a special guest to visit the Club, the Federal Member for Shortland, Mr. Pat Conroy. Over a relaxed lunch, subjects around what our club offers and delivers to our community and encompassing sponsorships for junior and non-commercial sports groups including our Newcastle Boccia and school groups were discussed. Mr Conroy was impressed with our ventures and advised us of different grants that could be available to assist in supporting the community further into the future. We thanked Pat for his assistance with Graham’s submissions for grants and in particular his help in gaining grants for the Club’s Championship Mini Golf Course facilities. Further grant applications are now under consideration.
We are also pleased to announce that we have entered a new sporting partnership with the University of Newcastle ”Sea Pigs” Field Hockey teams and look forward to their use and enjoyment of our club facilities.
A new look is to be undertaken in function rooms 1 & 2. The faulty ceilings will not only be replaced but a new entire ceiling will be raised and highlighted. To further compliment the new look, the purchase of new function furniture is being explored. This work will commence in the coming weeks.
After the successful Phoenix Baseball Club Mini Golf day with 40 members, family and friends attending, other clubs within our support range have also booked in for bonding days and outings. Further enhancement of the Mini Golf area will commence this week to add much needed shade sails and lighting
In our focus group study, communication issues were a key point. All members are encouraged to update their details so promotions activities and information can be sent directly through multi- media channels.
The board had quite a long session going through and approving the forthcoming budget for the 2018-19 financial year. Next month, the Auditor will commence their detailed work into the financials of the club to be presented to the members at the AGM.
We are always looking for suitably qualified and keen members to put their hand up at election time to become a Director. Any one interested in doing so please speak with the CEO as a Pre-Nomination session, to assist with you understanding the role, will be held in June.
All members should be aware that the Club has strong working policies in place that are backed by the Clubs Constitution and By-Laws. These include but are not limited to Anti-Discrimination, Bullying and Harassment Policy, WHS policies and procedures for safe work place for staff, members and guests, and zero tolerance for violence or abuse of any kind. The Constitution, By-Laws and working policies and procedures are in place so that we can all feel safe and comfortable in our Club environment whether it be members, visitors or staff.
If you have anything you would like the Board to communicate on, please put it in writing and deliver to our CEO prior to each months Board meeting. The Board meets every third or fourth Monday of the month.
